Motion control encoders are add-on optoelectronic encoders that record distances, angles of rotation, speeds or the position of machine axes. Motion control encoders are also direct measuring systems that are attached to shafts, axes or motors and can be used in conjunction with numerical and programmable logic controllers, drives and position indicators. Another advantage is that the motion control encoders are system-tested, certified components and optimally matched to the following systems: SINUMERIK CNC controllers, SIMOTION motion control systems, SIMATIC programmable logic controllers and SINAMICS drive systems. Single-turn absolute encoders output the absolute angular position between 0° and 360°. Multiturn encoders also record the number of revolutions. They work on the same scanning principle as incremental encoders, but have a larger number of tracks. The code used is a one-step Gray code, which means that no scanning errors can occur. After switching on the machine, the position value is immediately transferred to the controller, no reference point approach is required. Among other things, the SSI interface is supported by the absolute encoders and there are advantages in time-critical applications. The absolute encoder is connected via SINAMICS Sensor Modules SMC/SME. The absolute encoders with SSI and an operating voltage of 4.75 V to 30 V are available in versions with a synchro flange or clamp flange and each with an axial or radial flange socket connection. All absolute encoders are available in single-turn and multi-turn versions. The resolution is 13 bits for single-turn encoders and 25 bits for multi-turn encoders.
