Cover switch-button-dimmer - Do you prefer plain and simple covers for switches and buttons? Or may it also be something extravagant? We offer a huge range and show you what colours, shapes and styles are there? At eibabo® you will find blind covers and switch covers that make our home functional, comfortable and individually adjustable. This includes covers for room temperature controllers and dimmers from over 20 brand manufacturers at top conditions.PICTURE: Busch Jaeger 2504-2014 blind rockerWhat are covers for switches and buttons? Our life is hardly imaginable without power connections in the house. We operate light switches and plug sockets several times a day. Anyone involved in the planning and construction of a building knows the importance of covers for switches and sockets. Trouble-free functionality, simple design, durability and safety are what count in everyday contact with the interfaces to the power grid. How are these devices constructed? Roughly speaking, conventional switches and buttons consist of an insert, a frame and a cover. The insert consists of the switching technology or the technology for the button and is installed in a switch box.The cover frame forms the outer ring of a socket, button, switch or other insert. The covers fill the frame and ensure that we can safely operate switches, buttons or sockets. The manufacturers have adjusted to the needs of their customers. These offer switch programs with which you can determine the appearance of your switches, buttons and sockets yourself. Covers are available as:Rocker switches, rocker switches and double rockers for lights, blinds, heating and the likeCentral plate for sockets, network sockets and other mediaCable outlet or key switchBlind cover without functionalityCentral disc for dimmers, sensors, temperature controllers Can covers for switches and buttons be combined with frames from other switch ranges? The answer is yes and no. Inserts, frames and covers are standardized, but the details can differ. Why is that? The standard refers to DIN 49073:2007-09. This prescribes the typical dimensions of a switch box (diameter: 60 mm or 68 mm. Depth: 40 mm to 66 mm). The switch ranges of all manufacturers fit into your existing and standardized switch boxes. The situation is different if you want to combine different switch ranges. Although all switch series correspond to the basic installation standard, there are differences in design. As a result, some series are not compatible with other series. Particularly exclusive switch programs are usually also not compatible with other programs. These are usually made of glass, brass, brushed aluminum or stainless steel. TIP:When combining white parts, make sure they have a matching color number (RAL) and the same surface treatment. There may be minor differences. Some covers for buttons and switches match cover frames from other series and manufacturers in terms of shape and size. This allows you to design the control elements in your living room or work area very individually. If you want to combine, we recommend matching the inserts and cover first. In many cases, you will receive these devices as a matching set. This results in the choice of a suitable framework. Many manufacturers produce standardized frames with a cut-out of 55x55mm or 50x50mm. These fit onto correspondingly standardized covers and inserts. Then swapping, combining or varying is possible. If you are not sure, please look at the product description and compare the dimensions given. How do I remove a cover for switches and buttons? You can replace covers for sockets and switches yourself. Please pay attention to your safety, because after removing the covers the current-carrying contacts are exposed. When working with electricity, please disconnect the power supply beforehand. In most cases, the cover or the central plate is screwed to the insert with a small, centrally located screw. You can simply loosen them and carefully pull off the cover.cleaningCentral plates, central discs, rocker switches and cover frames are often touched. We recommend regular cleaning. With a rinse cycle in the dishwasher, all parts become clean again. Some materials are sensitive to heat or water. For example, clean metal covers by hand. Please make sure that the cleaned parts are absolutely dry before you start the cultivation. Place the frame behind the cover and screw it to the insert. Is there a cover for buttons and switches for outdoor use?A special feature are the covers for outdoor use. This is due to the necessary protection against dust, dirt and water. The optimal switch range for use outdoors or in damp rooms is at least IP44 splash-proof. This should also have a reinforced frame, be made of robust material and be mountable to protect it against theft. As a rule, you do not receive such covers individually but in a set. TIP:Many outdoor covers are visually very appealing. These can also find a place in the interior design. Please do not use interior covers in damp rooms or outdoors. As a rule, these switch ranges do not offer the necessary protection.Do covers for switches and buttons break easily?Covers for switches and buttons are actuated several times a day, depending on where they are used. However, the loads on the material are low. The high-quality products from all major manufacturers have proven to be very robust in everyday use. With careful handling, the covers can last for several decades. During assembly and disassembly, there is a risk of damage if, for example, you overtighten the assembly screw. Data sockets, central plates, blind covers and other connection sockets for multimedia applications are available at particularly low prices in this eibabo® catalogue. It's the inconspicuous things that define our lives more than we think. Without them, our house or apartment would not be complete. This includes inserts and covers for telecommunications and media technology connections. Shopping, chatting with friends, online banking, a movie night, working or reading the news - everything is closely related to today's communication technology. Did you know?In Europe, people use the internet for an average of 4.5 hours a day. In Asia it is more than 3 hours and in the US people spend an average of 6 hours on the internet every day. This is not surprising considering the many possibilities offered by the World Wide Web. Which connections make all these things possible? We give you a brief overview.Which connections do the inserts and covers offered here offer? In this catalog you will find inserts and covers for the following connections: RJ45 CAT, KOAX, UAE/IAE, TAE, SAT, HDMI, USB, XLR, Cinch as well as for speaker cables and others. The range also includes dummy covers, cable outlets, cable ducts and cover plates for built-in loudspeakers. Many manufacturers make inserts and covers in a standardized size. This enables you to choose, combine or vary an individual frame. Refer to the product description to find out whether the inside dimensions of the cover frame you have chosen fit the insert or the cover. This allows you to customize the media connections in your living space. What do you need an RJ45 CAT connection for?The RJ45 CAT connector is a connector for Ethernet cables typically used for computer networking. The cables are available in STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) and UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) versions. STP cables have a shield around each core. This protects against electromagnetic interference. STP cables are commonly used in offices with many computers or in industry. UTP cables have no shielding. These are cheaper and are mainly used in private households. The RJ45 CAT connector is suitable for networks in which large amounts of data are transmitted, for example when streaming video or downloading large files. The RJ45 CAT connector is compatible with the newer 802.11ac and 10GBASE-T standards. Choose such a deployment and appropriate coverage for your network if you have already migrated to these standards or will migrate in the future. The RJ45 CAT connector can be used for the following purposes:Functioning of Ethernet networks with high data rates over long distancesConnection of computers, switches, hubs, DSL modems, routers and other network devicesSupport for Voice over IP (VoIP), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and other bandwidth intensive applications Image: Gira 569703 Modular Jack RJ45 Cat6A insertWhat is the difference between IAE, UAE and TAE connections?Whether IAE, UAE or TAE - connections are an elementary part of the functionality of devices that accompany us every day. Everyone knows them, but very few know what lies behind them. IAE stands for 'Integrated Services Digital Network Access' and is a digital connection for telephony and Internet access. UAE stands for 'Universal ADSL Access' and is a special type of ADSL connection that enables high-speed Internet via the conventional telephone network. TAE stands for 'telecommunications system connection' and is an analogue telephone connection, which is still widespread in Germany.Interesting in a nutshellWhat is HDMI?HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is one of the most common interfaces for the digital transmission of audio and video data. The HDMI insert is a special type of connection that makes it possible to use HDMI cables and thus transmit audio and video data. HDMI inserts and the matching covers are available for installation in a switch box. Why do I need a blind cover?A blank cover is a cover for a port that is not used. This allows you to prevent dust or debris from getting into the port and contaminating the can. What is a cable outlet?Within a building it can happen that power lines or data lines are required at a certain point. A socket outlet or a data cable connection on the wall is not always desirable. Instead, the line or cable is routed cleanly out of the wall using a cable outlet and can be routed further within the room. What is a cord derivation?A cord derivation or cable outlet box is used to connect an external mostly flexible cable to the flush-mounted installation. In the private sector, for example, for leading out concealed multimedia cables or in the hotel industry for connecting the TV directly to the power supply as protection against theft. Are there combined telecommunications operations and media operations? Most inserts offer one or more connection points of the same type. There are a few inserts that combine different connections, for example RJ45 CAT and SAT. Mark connectionsIf there are numerous workplaces within a room and you need a large number of connections, we recommend covers with a labeling field. With small notes on the type, purpose or affiliation, you always have an overview of your installation. The eibabo® range includes a wide variety of variants and technical designs. These include models in various shades such as aluminum grey, polar white and anthracite or with glossy and matt surfaces. All inserts and covers are available in the current standards and regulations. Depending on the installation location and the desired type of assembly, you can benefit from our large range. Optimally design the connection between your living room or work area and the digital and multimedia world.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Domestic switching devices > Insert/cover for communication technology you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Antenna socketAssembly setBase unitBlank panelBlanking plugBreakout cableCable outletsCentral platesCommunication technologyCord outlet boxData communicationData connection moduleDust coverLabel fieldLotus whiteMiniature connector insertMounting adapterMounting plateNickel metallicOutlet platePlug-in hoodSolder connectionSpeaker boxSpeaker socketStrain reliefUniversal useVolume controlZone controlfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Insert communication cover:ABLBachmannBerkerBusch JaegerCommScope EMEACommScope/AMP NetconnE+P ElektrikEatonEFB-ElektronikElsoEltakoGiraHagerHartingHomewayJungKathreinKleinhuisKreilingLegrand BticinoLeoni DatacomMaicoMertenMetzMurrelektronikOBOPanduitPehaReichle & De-MassariRutenbeckSetecSiemensStiebel EltronTechniSatTehalitTelegärtnerTriaxWeidmüller
Room temperature controller - When building a new house or renovating, you have numerous interesting options for organizing the control of the room temperature. We will tell you how you can use various bus systems such as KNX, radio or LCN in addition to the conventional temperature setting. Automation not only increases living comfort, but also contributes to the value of your building. This enables you to make necessary adjustments or changes even when you are not at home. This eibabo® catalog provides room temperature controllers for all common applications. What are KNX room temperature controllers?KNX room temperature controllers are part of a building's heating system. These are used for individual room temperature control of interior rooms and have various measuring ranges. The respective devices can differ significantly in terms of application and the functions provided for operation and comfort. For example, the differences are whether static heating surfaces or underfloor heating are to be controlled or whether air conditioning and ventilation functions are to be provided.Do not confuseThermostats are also known as room temperature controllers. Installed on radiators, however, they measure the temperature at the heating and usually only differentiate between on and off.KNX room temperature controllers, on the other hand, continuously control between 0 and 100 percent and use a heating actuator to communicate with the heating actuators. How is the room temperature controlled using KNX?A KNX room temperature controller determines the control difference between the target temperature and the actual temperature. The calculated control difference is sent as a 1-byte command value telegram (a value between 0 and 100 percent) via the KNX bus to the corresponding channel of a heating actuator. This processes the signal and then controls the actuator. The following small example illustrates the rough functionality. The actual manufacturer specific control algorithm may be different:The room temperature controller determines a current temperature of 18 degrees Celsius (controlled variable). However, the desired room temperature should be 22 degrees Celsius. The 22 degrees Celsius then represents the setpoint for the controlled variable. The resulting difference between the actual value and the setpoint is the control deviation. The control difference is 4 degrees Celsius and is used to determine the control variable that is to be used to influence the room temperature. Assuming the manipulated variable is 25%. This value is transmitted as a 1-byte telegram (0-255 = 0-100%) from the room temperature controller to the heating actuator. In this case 63.75. For example, the actuator takes 2 minutes to fully open. The time required for the respective actuator to open or close can be found in the data sheet for the thermoelectric actuator. This information must have been previously stored in the parameters of the actuator using Engineering Tool Software (ETS). With a command value specification of 25%, the actuator would switch on the actuator for 30 seconds (this corresponds to 25% of 2 minutes) and switch it off for 90 seconds. The actuator then switches on again for 30 seconds and so on. If the room temperature controller calculates and transmits a different command value specification, the switching cycle for the actuator also changes.Image: Gira 210003 KNX continuous controllerWhat is the difference between KNX continuous controllers, KNX object controllers and KNX room temperature controllers? The selection of KNX temperature controllers is very large. eibabo® offers products from all leading manufacturers of control technology for HVAC (heating, air conditioning, ventilation) in smart home automation. These include ABB, Berker, Busch-Jaeger, Eaton, Elsner Elektronik, Eltako, EIBMARKT, Gira, Hager, Issendorf, Jung, Lingg & Janke, MDT, Merten, Siemens, Theben and Thermokon. Many of these manufacturers use different designations, such as KNX continuous controller, KNX object controller or KNX room temperature controller.KNX room temperature controllers continuously record temperature values and forward them to other system components as KNX signals that can be evaluated. This process takes place continuously. A KNX continuous controller is therefore the same as a KNX room temperature controller. The situation is different with a KNX object controller. Object controllers are room temperature controllers without direct adjustment options on the device for the setpoint temperature. Object controllers were developed for object use. In public objects, as a rule, direct adjustment by strangers should be prevented. The values are parameterised directly via the ETS (software). You can change these directly via KNX (KNX buttons, KNX operating panels, KNX visualisations) in the setpoints. KNX object controllers are often cheaper and suitable in private areas for corridors, basements or storage rooms. What do you have to consider when positioning a KNX room temperature controller? As a rule, the installation is carried out using a branch switch box with 4 screw bosses, one switch box deep. Alternatively, use an electronics box if a separate bus coupler is required. With our convenient search function, you can quickly find the right items here in the eibabo® technology store. TIP:There are multi-channel KNX room temperature controllers for installation in your electrical distribution. Here, the temperature is measured via separate KNX sensors, for example from KNX buttons or KNX motion detectors with an integrated temperature sensor. For optimal use of all functions and the best possible recording of the measurement data, please ensure that the installation height is 1.60 m from the top edge of the finished floor. In this way you ensure optimal control and user-friendly handling. How is a room temperature controller connected to the KNX bus?KNX room temperature controllers are equipped differently by the manufacturers. You can either buy the KNX room temperature controller including a bus coupler or you have to order the bus coupler separately. The required interface between the KNX bus and the KNX room temperature controller is called the bus coupler. You can tell whether your controller has a bus connection by the red and black bus terminal. The KNX controllers often offer included KNX binary inputs. These are used, for example, to integrate conventional buttons in the room to switch lights via KNX. These binary inputs usually correspond to the technical data of KNX push button interfaces and can therefore only be extended up to a maximum of 50cm.How important is the appearance of a KNX room temperature controller? There are controllers with or without a dial to adjust the temperature. Other models are operated via the display and menu controls. Everything is possible here. The controls should match your other switch range and reflect your modern, classic, simple or extravagant style of living. TIP:Don't just look at the exterior of a KNX room temperature controller, but also at its inner values. There are often considerable differences in the application developments (software) of the manufacturers. The possibilities that the respective software can offer you may be relevant to your project requirements. Think of:control behaviorInfluencing control processesOperating modes and external switching options or setpoint adjustment optionsstatus feedbacknumber of group addressesBehavior in the event of a bus voltage failureand much more What other properties should I consider before buying a KNX room temperature controller? In addition to the technical, optical and software properties mentioned, other factors can speak for or against a specific model.Do I need anti-theft or dismantling protection? What color or what material do I want for the control panel?Do the local conditions require wireless data transmission?Should it be regulated via a room controller?and some more What are room controllers with integrated KNX room temperature controller? An alternative to the KNX room temperature controllers presented here are the KNX room controllers, provided they have an integrated temperature controller. These are devices that you can use to centrally control lighting, temperature and blinds, for example. Such controllers can be used via individually assignable control panels for switching, dimming, regulating or controlling all required actuators and sensors. You can also get numerous high-quality KNX room controllers here in the shop at top conditions. These are part of audio intercom systems and enable interpersonal communication using speech. The advantage for residents is that they are not face to face with a visitor. This is for security and thus for access control if a visitor is not wanted. In this guide you can find out how intercom systems work, what types there are and what you should pay attention to when buying one. What are intercoms?Audio intercoms can be found in almost every apartment building these days. These are basic access control devices. This allows residents to open the front door without having to leave the apartment. Intercoms are used to ensure security and increase comfort. These systems are also installed in single-family homes, in administration buildings and office complexes, as well as on the premises of industrial companies. The characteristics of the devices vary, and the choice of the optimal model depends on individual preferences and purpose.Audio intercom basicsFirst we would like to describe the basic structure of a simple system. The system consists of two or more interconnected modules. Depending on the device type, these are:The door stationThe device is mounted at the entrance, a gate or an access door and is equipped with one or more call buttons, a loudspeaker and a microphone. The connection to the indoor station is normally established by pressing the respective bell button.Already knew? The first electric loudspeaker was invented by Johann Philipp Reis in 1861 and was used to reproduce speech in the Reis telephone he developed. One or more indoor stationsThe indoor stations are installed inside the house. Either in every apartment or at a central location with the responsible employee. It is usually also possible to use it to unlock the front door lock. The main elements of an indoor station are a speaker, a microphone, a display and access control buttons. The interaction between door station and indoor station enables bidirectional voice communication with the visitor. There are often practical functions such as a privacy function or illuminated buttons on the indoor station. The electromagnetic or electromechanical lockThe lock is a separate component and is connected to the access control organization system.Cable for connecting door station and indoor stationDepending on the structure of the system and the number of participants, the cabling can be very complex. Some manufacturers offer the connection between devices via radio or via WLAN within a local network. Systems with wireless transmission are best suited for retrofitting. There are also auxiliary components such as power supply, switches, exit buttons, brackets, visors to protect against rain and direct sunlight, and fasteners. In addition to the basic components, extended sets can contain additional outdoor cameras for video surveillance, microphones, motion sensors or lighting. Identifiers in the form of electronic keys, magnetic cards or biometric properties are also possible. The personal access codes are stored in these devices. If you are interested, you can get all components of such systems individually or as complete sets in the appropriate categories in our shop.Image: Siedle CA 850-2 E audio door stationThe difference between audio systems and video intercomsDoor communication systems can be divided into audio systems and video models. Audio systems are cheaper and are among the top products in the eibabo® shop. These enable bidirectional voice communication between residents and visitors. Video intercom systems are slightly more expensive to purchase. The main difference is the presence of a built-in camera in the outdoor unit. This transmits a video recording to the monitor of the indoor station. Video intercoms can have a wide range of features. In some cases, these are also used as simple video surveillance systems for an object. In what form are loudspeakers for door stations offered? In the field of communication systems for doors and entrances, we have a large selection of door loudspeakers and audio door stations. In addition to loudspeaker modules and combined loudspeaker-video modules, we also have a large selection of front-door stations, individual loudspeakers and complete door stations. The devices are available in different versions and have different properties:mounting typesThe loudspeakers offered individually or as a set are usually surface-mounted or flush-mounted. Flush-mounted models correspond to the standard dimensions for switch boxes and are attached to the wall like switches and sockets. Surface-mounted devices must be mounted individually on the wall and have the appropriate fastening elements for this purpose. So-called built-in loudspeakers are often modular components for installation in door stations or mailbox systems. Other models are designed for wall installation. These consist of a door loudspeaker, a bell button with a name tag and are often combined with a mailbox including a removal door on the back.materialThe material selection does not refer to the loudspeaker itself. Here you select the material of the push plate or the front panel. These are made of robust plastic or stable metal such as stainless steel or aluminum. TIPIf your loudspeaker or your door station is exposed to sun, rain and wind, please choose a device with a high IP protection class. We offer devices with dust protection and contact protection as well as protection against splashing water on all sides. securityProtection against vandalism is an important issue, especially when used in apartment buildings or other heavily frequented buildings. If you need devices with protective covers and anti-theft protection, simply set the 'Protection against vandalism' filter in our detailed search.connection technologyThere are big differences in the installation technology. When purchasing, please pay attention to the possibility of direct integration into manufacturer-specific networks or standardized smart home systems. CEE socket - All plug connections approved by us are standardized according to CEE. This applies to the flat Euro plug type C, as it is installed on low-voltage light chains, for example, as well as to the well-known German Schuko plug type F. However, the designations of the CEE plug and the CEE socket actually only have two Plug types enforced. These are the red three-phase 400 V three-phase plugs, which are colloquially also not quite correctly called heavy-current plugs, and the blue single-phase 230 V plugs, which are commonly referred to as camping plugs. So if you do woodturning in your free time, often work with a circular saw or are on holiday in a camper van, then you are probably familiar with the CEE socket. If you need CEE plugs and sockets for your installation, you are sure to find the right models here in the eibabo online shop. In addition to variants with different fastening and moisture protection properties, CEE combi sockets are also part of our extensive range.Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Industrial socket/plug applications > CEE socket outlet you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:CE standard plug deviceCEE connectorCEE socketCEE socket outletCEE socket outlet, surfaceCEE standard container socketCEE standard wall socketCEE wall socket (AP)CEEform connectorCEEform container socketCEEform extra-low voltage socketCEEform socketCEEform wall boxCekon connectorCekon connectorsCekon container socketExtra-low voltage socketICEE connectorIndustrial plug boxIndustrial socketPlug boxPower socketReceptacleSocketSocket outletThree-phase connectorWall boxWall socketfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue CEE socket:ABBABLBachmannBalsBEGA GantenbrinkElektraMennekesPepperl + FuchsPhoenixSchneider ElectricTehalitWalther
Soft starters - Would you like to avoid suddenly occurring high starting currents when switching on an electric motor, reduce wear and tear on the motor and thus extend its service life? Find out here how a soft starter works and which criteria you can use to select such a device. What is a soft starter?Soft starters, soft starters or soft starters can basically be used in all electric motors. The devices are used in particular for asynchronous motors that are operated with alternating current. The starters work according to the fact that the torque developed by the electric motor is proportional to the square of the starting current and, correspondingly, proportional to the applied voltage. Thus, with a soft starter, by reducing the voltage at the moment the motor starts, you can adjust the torque and current. So, the task of these devices is to keep the motor parameters (current, voltage, torque and so on) within safe limits during the start. This is done to:to relieve the engine drive train when startingto limit the inrush currentto avoid a voltage drop in the mains voltageprevent the miniature circuit breaker in the circuit from responding too quicklyprevent engine overheatingEliminate dropouts and irregularities in the course of the mechanical driveextend engine life What is an asynchronous motor? To understand the importance of soft starters, we need to know something about the motors they are used in. Electric motors run on either direct current or alternating current. When it comes to AC motors, we mainly differentiate between asynchronous motors and synchronous motors. The difference between the two motor variants lies in the detailed design and the interaction between the rotor and stators in the magnetic field generated.Already knew?In a synchronous motor, the rotor speed is always equal to the rotational frequency of the electromagnetic field. In an asynchronous motor, there is a difference between the rotational speeds of the rotor and the rotating magnetic field in the stator.Asynchronous motors of small and medium power are the most commonly used electric motors and are used both in industry and in household appliances. In the industrial environment, three-phase asynchronous motors are used most frequently, for example as drives in construction, in traffic, in public utilities or as drives for water supply devices. The main problems of these engines are:the high starting current, which can be many times higher than the nominal current and thus leads to problems with the performance stabilitythe inevitable difference between engine torque and load torque. When switching on, the torque is often available in fractions of a second. This sudden force can lead to failure of the drive train. A soft starter avoids these problems by slowing the acceleration and deceleration of the motor. As a result, starting currents can be reduced and irregularities in the mechanical part of the drive as well as hydraulic shocks in lines and valves when starting and stopping the motors can be avoided. What is the starting current? The principle of operation of asynchronous motors is based on electromagnetic induction. The build-up of a back EMF from the application of a changing magnetic field during engine start-up causes transients in the electrical system. Definition transientTransients in electric motors are brief voltage peaks caused by switching on the electrical circuit. These transients can affect power supplies and other connected devices. When starting, the engine accelerates to full speed. Meanwhile, the starting current can reach many times the full load current. During this time, the cables must carry more current than when they are running. The voltage drop in the system is also much greater when starting up. This becomes especially clear when starting a powerful power unit or a large number of engines at once. This is why soft starters are increasingly being used when starting high-performance electric drives. The function of the starters is to supply voltage to the motor windings evenly from zero to nominal, which also allows the motor to accelerate smoothly to maximum speed. During the starting process, the soft starter gradually increases the applied voltage and the electric motor accelerates to the nominal speed without high torque peaks and current surges. How a soft starter worksYou have now learned about the main problems involved in starting induction motors. Soft starters counteract these problems and can be either mechanical or electrical or a combination of both. Mechanical soft starters directly counteract the sudden increase in engine speed by limiting the torque, for example, with brake pads, fluid couplings, magnetic locks or counterweights. The electrically constructed devices gradually increase the current or voltage from an initially low level to a maximum voltage. This starts the motor smoothly and gradually accelerates it to its rated speed. These starters usually work with an amplitude control and can therefore also start up when idling or under load. Devices of the newer generation use phase control methods and also start drives with heavy starting.Image: Siemens 3RW4037-1BB04 soft starterWhat types of soft starters are there?Soft starters are phase controlled. Thus, three types of soft starters are used: devices with one, two and with all controlled phases. The first variant is applied to single-phase motors to provide reliable protection against overload and overheating, as well as to reduce the effects of electromagnetic interference. The devices of the second type usually contain a bypass contactor in addition to the semiconductor control board. After the motor has reached rated speed, the bypass contactor is activated and supplies DC voltage to the motor. The three-phase type is the optimal and most technically advanced solution. It provides reliable current and magnetic field strength limitation without phase distortion. What should you consider when buying a soft starter? The main feature of a soft starter is the current rating. This value should be 'many times' greater than the value of the current flowing through the motor winding. How high this 'multiple' is depends on the severity of the launch. When it comes to motors for fans or pumps, the starting current is about three times higher than the rated current. Certain saws or press machines are often devices with heavy starting. These are drives with a large moment of inertia. Their starting current is about five times higher than the rated current. For motors with particularly difficult starting, the starting current can be eight to ten times higher. Please noteA soft start takes time and excess energy is converted into heat. To repeat the starting process, the starters must cool down. Therefore, if your process requires frequent switching on and off, choose a soft starter for heavy or extra heavy starting (even if your machine doesn't actually need it).Decide on a device that controls the required number of phases. In addition, a soft starter works according to a preset program. In other words: The device increases the voltage to the nominal value within a certain time. An integrated control unit with feedback function allows you to control this process and compare voltage and torque or the differences between rotor and stator. If necessary, pay attention to the ability of the starter to work when accelerating or braking. This would require an additional, integrated auxiliary contactor that bridges the main circuit so that it can cool down. This prevents phase asymmetry and overheating of the motor windings. With some models, you can set certain parameters manually using a rotary potentiometer on the device or digitally using a microcontroller. Consider whether you need additional functionality or features. These include:a certain type of protectionthe presence of power saving modesrestart capabilityWorking at reduced speed  TIPA properly selected soft starter can double the service life of electric motors and save up to 30 percent electricity. With a soft starter from the eibabo® online shop, you are opting for high-quality goods from well-known manufacturers such as Eaton, Schneider, ABB or Siemens. Combination rcd-line protection - What are the advantages of a residual current circuit breaker in combination with line protection? Where are these devices used? What specification should you look out for? Read this post to learn more. Electricity is an indispensable part of our life. But the fact is that electricity poses a risk to life and property. The main risks associated with electricity include electric shock and fire. Therefore, you should not be neglectful when protecting your circuits. The aim is to protect people from the risk of electric shock and fire. In the event of sudden ground faults, a residual current circuit breaker is particularly helpful. This ensures that in such cases the circuit is immediately interrupted. Circuit breakers are used in the event of overcurrents. With the combination of both devices you protect yourself against most dangers.Image: Hager ADZ316D residual current circuit breaker with line protectionWhat is combi FI line protection?Combination switches for residual current circuit breakers (FI) and line protection (LS) are also referred to as FI/LS combination switches. This FI/LS combination switch is a protective switching device that combines the functionalities of residual current circuit breakers and miniature circuit breakers. A residual current circuit breaker is an important safety measure when it comes to protecting electrical circuits. RCCB or RCD is also often mentioned. These are the abbreviations for the English terms 'Residual Current Circuit Breaker' and 'Residual Current Device'. It is a current sensing device that can automatically measure and disconnect the circuit. Disconnection occurs when a fault occurs in the connected circuit or the current exceeds the rated sensitivity of the device. Miniature circuit breakers are overcurrent protection devices when used in low-voltage networks. These are also called MCBs. MCB is the abbreviation for the English term 'Miniature Circuit Breaker'. Advantages:The combination FI line protection devices offer the following protection at the same time: short-circuit protection, overload protection, additional protection or error protection, protection against electric shock and preventive fire protection. While a residual current circuit breaker is only used to protect against earth faults and a miniature circuit breaker only to protect against overcurrent, the combination FI line protection protects against both types of faults.Where is combined RCD line protection required? The FI line protection combination devices we offer are used both in residential installations and in industrial applications. You can significantly increase the availability of a system with RCBOs. We recommend fitting a combi RCD to each individual circuit. Errors that occur in one circuit therefore do not impair the functionality of the other circuits. Assembly:The series installation devices are intended for installation in electrical distribution boards on the DIN rail. If you have electrical circuits that must remain functional at all times, a combi FI circuit breaker is the right choice. For example, think of the power supply for your aquarium, freezer or fire alarm. RCDs and miniature circuit breakers can still cause a power outage because they only detect one type of problem. In less important circuits, a residual current device or a simple miniature circuit breaker may be less expensive. However, consider their disadvantages when installing in critical systems. Can I replace a simple residual current circuit breaker with a combination FI circuit breaker? You can, of course, retrofit an FI/LS combination switch or replace your existing residual current circuit breaker with a combination FI circuit breaker. The prerequisite is that the cable sizes are appropriate considering the rating of the combined RCD. We recommend that the replacement be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines. He should check the resistance values and test the insulation. The isolation of the RCD combination switch should also perform within the appropriate specifications. What should I look out for when buying a combi RCD?When distinguishing between the individual RCBOs, please consider the tripping characteristics. Combination switches with B characteristics and C characteristics are available here. The key difference between Type B and Type C devices is their ability to tolerate surge currents without tripping. These are typically inrush currents in connection with reactive loads, which occur, for example, with lighting or motors (capacitive or inductive loads).Good to knowThe classification according to tripping characteristics is based on the nominal residual current at which instantaneous tripping occurs. This is usually less than 100 milliseconds. On the one hand, devices with high inrush currents should not trigger the RCBO combination switch unnecessarily. On the other hand, it should switch safely in the event of a short-circuit current.Type B devices are primarily suitable for domestic and light commercial applications. Here shift shocks are low or non-existent. Choose Type C equipment for commercial and industrial applications when you expect a certain level of electrical inrush current. In addition, there are devices of type D. These have only limited applications. Typically in industrial environments where high inrush currents are expected.Type B devices trip at fault currents that are three to five times the rated current. For example, a 10 amp device will trip at 30-50 amps.Devices with a C characteristic are designed in such a way that they trip at five to ten times the nominal current. A 10A device will respond at 50-100 amps. Choose a suitable model from a trusted manufacturer. The switching properties of cheap no-name devices can differ significantly from the specified values. Don't compromise on your own safety. In this catalog from the eibabo® shop you will find numerous residual current circuit breakers with line protection from leading manufacturers such as ABB, ABL, Busch Jaeger, Doepke, Eaton, Hager, Legrand Bticino, Schneider Electric and Siemens. Why does my combi RCD keep tripping? In addition to natural inrush currents, failure of connected equipment can trip a Type B combination switch in a residential or commercial environment. This is caused by high arc currents occurring at the time of failure. If unwanted trips persist, a Type-C device can replace a Type-B device, especially in commercial applications. Alternatively, it is possible to use a type B device with a higher power rating. Another reason can of course be a constantly present fault current in the installation or in the connected devices. Connected pluggable equipment should be removed in order to identify a defective device as the cause. If this is not the case, an electrician should be commissioned to check the electrical installation immediately. TIP:If a combination FI line protection trips, there is a reason. Increasing the tolerance threshold is only possible within certain limits. In this case, please look at your installation. The normal ratings for cables and wires refer to continuous operation under specified installation conditions. Of course, cables and wires can carry higher currents for a short time without being damaged. If the load becomes too high, please secure individual devices separately.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Circuit breakers and fuses > Earth leakage circuit breaker you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Circuit breakerCombination circuit breakerCombination switchEarth leakage circuit breakerLine protectionPersonal protection machineResidual currentfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Combination rcd-line protection:ABBDoepkeEatonHagerSchneider ElectricSiemens
