Fire detector - Your building and the people and objects in it are certainly important to you. Protect your valuables by using fire alarms. Find out here how fire detectors differ and what you should consider when buying one. Fire detectors play an important role in the area of alarm systems. These are an indispensable part of security in private and public buildings. In some cases, the building must be equipped with fire alarms. What are fire alarms?Fire alarms are technical devices or systems that draw your attention to an emergency. This alarm allows you to take action to extinguish a fire and protect people and assets. The devices can be found in the private environment, as well as in commercial units, office buildings, industrial plants and public facilities. Each fire detector detects a hazard in different ways. Irrespective of this, in the event of a fire:acoustic signals are triggered to draw the attention of people in the buildingRemote signals are sent to alert the fire brigade directly or via a central station A complete fire alarm system usually consists not only of the detectors, but also of a fire alarm control panel. This can be set up to trigger various actions automatically. These include, for example:the automatic information of the fire brigadethe activation of extinguishing systems for active firefightingswitching on ventilation systems or extraction systemsopening escape routes In this eibabo® catalogue, the focus is on the detector devices that should be installed at central points in a building to detect hazards. What are the differences between the fire detectors? The various fire detectors are, so to speak, the 'sensory organs' of a fire alarm system. We differentiate between automatic fire detectors and non-automatic fire detectors. Automatic fire detectors detect a fire based on physical properties. Non-automatic fire detectors must be operated manually. The nature of the danger can also be very different. With the automatic fire detectors, you have the choice between simple or technically sophisticated fire gas detectors or smoke gas detectors, heat detectors, smoke detectors, flame detectors, multiple sensor detectors and various special detectors. Manual fire alarms with broken glass windows are non-automatic fire alarms.Fire gas detectors and smoke gas detectorsThe carbon monoxide detector is one of the fire gas detectors. Carbon monoxide is a toxic, colorless, odorless gas produced by combustion. Carbon monoxide detectors or CO fire detectors measure the carbon monoxide content in the air using an electrochemical cell.NoticeThus, a carbon monoxide detector is not only a fire detector. It also warns you if a combustion appliance (such as the heater) in your home has broken down and is emitting dangerous carbon monoxide. However, these devices do not detect smoke or other products of combustion. Other gas detectors immediately detect hazardous fire gases such as hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen chloride and chlorine gas. Flue gases are sulfur dioxide, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or nitrogen oxide.smoke detectorThere are three different types of smoke detectors, each with a different operating principle. In ionization smoke detectors there is a chamber with two electrically charged plates. In between a small amount of radioactive material. The air between the plates ionizes and current can flow. If smoke enters the chamber, it interrupts the flow of ions and the current flow is reduced. The result is that the alarm is triggered. Ionization smoke detectors work well in flaming fires. The light scattering smoke detectors work according to the Tyndall effect. This means that in a dark chamber there is a light source and a light sensor. Light source and light sensor are separated from each other in such a way that the light does not hit the sensor. Smoke in the chamber causes the light to scatter, which then hits the sensor. The alarm is triggered. These detectors are particularly suitable for smoldering fires. On the other hand, the smoke detector works with the principle of blackout. Light hits a sensor. The sensor measures the amount of light received. If there are fluctuations in the measured values, smoke is assumed and the alarm is triggered. Larger areas can be monitored with this type of detector because the light source and sensor can be positioned further apart.heat detectorHeat detectors or thermal detectors register the rise in temperature caused by a fire. Some heat detectors trigger automatically when a preset ambient temperature is reached. Other models monitor the rate of temperature rise and trigger if the temperature rises faster than the preset value over a period of time. In this case, an alarm is also triggered if the set trigger temperature has not yet been reached. Intelligent heat detectors give an alarm when the ambient temperature around the detector rises above a variable, relative value depending on other parameters.flame detectorFlame detectors are typically used in open areas or outdoors. However, these devices are also used indoors. Their sensors determine the energy emissions of a fire in the ultraviolet and infrared range. Flame detectors do not analyze combustion products such as heat and smoke.Multi-sensor detectorMulti-sensor detectors use a combination of multiple sensor types. These sense smoke, heat, or carbon monoxide to detect signs of a fire. A complex algorithm in the detector circuit uses the measured values to decide when an alarm is to be triggered. When integrated into a fire alarm system, the detector outputs a value based on the combined readings of all integrated sensors. These devices are sensitive to a variety of fires.Image: Hekatron ORS 210 optical smoke detectormanual call pointA manual detector or glass break detector is a device that allows anyone to trigger an alarm. To do this, a fragile element (usually a transparent pane) must be broken. The alarm can be triggered via a button behind it.How can fire alarm systems be structured? The function of fire alarm systems goes far beyond the mere alarming by individual detectors. You can implement these individually depending on your budget and architecture. A complete and reliable threat detection is important. In conventional systems, detectors / sensors / detectors are wired to the main control unit using classic cable connections. The detectors are divided into areas in order to be able to locate the danger point quickly. This makes the work of the fire brigade easier and is relevant for general building management. The current status of each area can be seen on the control center using a lamp or text display. The more differentiated the division of the areas, the more precisely the alarm trigger can be localized.Fire detectors with BUS technology are integrated into a KNX building automation system. The principle for detecting a hazard is similar to that of a conventional system. The connection is established via a BUS data line with the network control. In a KNX environment, each detector is given a fixed address. You can determine exactly which detector triggered the alarm via the control panel.Wireless systems are interesting alternatives to implement conventional or KNX-based fire alarm systems. Signals are transmitted between the sensors and the control center over secure, license-free frequencies. With a wireless system you are very flexible and can make extensions and changes without having to change anything in the fixed installation.Which fire alarm should I buy?You have now become acquainted with numerous fire detectors and alarm systems. Please assess the risk of a fire individually and also the dangers that such an emergency situation means for you and your building. TIP:Rely on a healthy mix of different fire detectors. In order to be able to detect the widest possible spectrum of different fires, we recommend a combination of different fire detectors. You cannot know beforehand whether the worst case scenario is fire and flames, a smoldering fire with heavy smoke development or a defective solid fuel appliance. Not every fire detector detects every type of fire. A multi-sensor detector offers many possible uses. The division into individual devices has the advantage that there is still a certain level of protection even if a single device fails.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Alarm installations, emergency call and signalling > Fire detector you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Building protectionCombination fire detectorCombined detectorDetector replacementDifferential switchFire detectorFire protectionFire technologyHeat alarmHeat detectionHome smoke detectorHousehold smoke detectorIndoor sirenLimit value techniqueLithium batteryMulti-sensor smoke detectorPower amplifierRadio detectorRadio fire protectionRelay outputRemote inspectionRemote readingSecurity technologySmoke alarm requirementSmoke detectionSystem dual detectorTemperature detectorWire meshfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Fire detector:ABBBusch JaegerEiEltakoESYLUXGezeGiraHagerHekatronIndexaJungNovar EsserRademacherSiemensSomfyWindowMaster
Blind switch-push button - Do you have numerous windows and would like to operate your blinds or roller shutters easily and conveniently at the push of a button? No problem. If your shading has drive motors, you can easily control the up and down with a blind switch. With blind switches from the eibabo® shop, you can dispense with the hassle of manually opening and closing and equip your building with a high-quality electric blind control. If you want it to be particularly convenient, then products from our smart home range might also be an option for you. Talk to us, we are specialists in the field of building automation.Image: Busch Jaeger 2000/4 US shutter switch insertWhat are blind switches?Blind switches or buttons for roller shutters are components for controlling blinds and roller shutters. However, it is also possible to connect drives for opening and closing awnings, roller shutters and similar things. The polarity is reversed by operating the respective rocker switches or buttons or by turning a toggle or a key in different directions. This causes the actuator or motor to be controlled in two different directions. Please noteYou cannot use a normal switch to control blinds. In the case of blind buttons or blind switches, the control is interlocked. This means that there can be either only the up command or the down command. Simultaneous actuation in both directions is not possible. In addition to the simple switches and buttons, models with a latching function, rotary key switches, variants with remote control or radio control and devices with a bus connection for home automation are also available. The switches for surface mounting and flush mounting are also available.Special features of the classic roller shutter switchThe classic among roller shutter switches looks like a light switch. Installed in a conventional switch box or surface-mounted, operation is usually carried out using two buttons (up button and down button) or a two-way button. Normally you have to press the respective button until the desired position of the shading is reached. The motor stops when a button is released. The same applies to the rocker switch with the two-way button. With a latching switch, you press the button for the corresponding direction and the motor opens or closes the shade to the end position. If you want to stop this process, you can do so using a stop function. This is triggered by pressing it again or in the opposite direction.Special features of a rotary switch / toggle switch for blinds and roller shuttersTechnically, the rotary switch is identical to the classic roller shutter switch. The difference lies in the operation. With these models, you turn the so-called knob to the left or right to determine the direction in which the motor runs. Here, too, you have the choice between models with a locking function or variants in which you have to hold the toggle in the desired position.qualityAll blind switches in the eibabo® technology store come from well-known manufacturers such as Berker, Gira, Somfy, Jung, Siemens, Hager and Busch Jaeger. We regularly use this high-quality branded product in our own projects.Special features of a key switch for blinds and roller shuttersA key switch is rarely used in private rooms. In publicly accessible areas, however, the rotary key switch offers effective protection against use by unauthorized persons. A key is required for operation, which is turned in the lock to the left or right for the desired direction. Here, too, a snap-in function is optionally possible. Such a switch is usually surrounded by a solid metal housingAdvantages and disadvantages of manual blind controlThis purely mechanical type of control is comparatively simple and works depending on the type of shading:by means of a rotatable shaft, which is manually driven by a torsion bar or a crankpurely due to the gravity of the roller shutters or awnings - often a belt causes the shading to be lowered and pulled up The systems are robust and mostly low-maintenance. In comparison to the automatic solution, it is operated entirely without electricity. The shading can thus be controlled independently of existing lines or the availability of electricity. In addition, this variant is easier to install. No cables need to be laid. Manual control is usually cheaper than automatic control. With a manual blind control, it is not possible to group several shadings and regulate them together. Each window must be adjusted individually. It is also not possible to open or close according to a predetermined time setting, the position of the sun or the wind load.Advantages and disadvantages of an electric blind controlThe main advantage of the electrified blind control is the increased comfort. The basic functionality is identical to manual control. But instead of having to turn the crank, you can simply open and close your shading with the push of a button. With appropriate cabling, several windows can be operated simultaneously, but not independently of each other. The disadvantages are the higher installation costs and the dependence on electricity. In the event of a power failure, it is generally not possible to move the shading. The electrical control forms the basis for automating the system. However, this is not yet a 'real' automation. This offers even more comfort.Advantages and disadvantages of automatic blind controlThere are countless ways to respond to personal needs or environmental influences with automatic control. With the term 'Smart Home' we describe the automation of buildings or apartments in which all technical communication is combined in a single network. With sensors and actuators, the intelligent house handles many processes independently, including the control of roller shutters, awnings, roller shutters and blinds:With light sensors, the shading is regulated automatically depending on the intensity of the natural light and the direction of the sun's rays.Temperature sensors set the shading in motion as soon as the temperature in the room rises above a set value.Timers ensure automatic timing.Weather stations and precipitation sensors react to wind and rain, retract the shading and protect it from damage.  TIPThe automated blind control can be wired or wireless, so the control can be central, decentralized or remote. This maximum level of comfort and flexibility is offset by higher installation costs for actuators, sensors and other software and hardware. In addition, when selecting wired devices, it is necessary to provide a separate data line. As a layman, you usually have to consult a specialist for the basic setup of the network. When the system is running, a lot of energy can also be saved with optimized processes. Installing automated shutters and blinds is a trendsetting way to control lighting in apartments and houses. This saves time, effort and energy. This includes inserts and covers for telecommunications and media technology connections. Shopping, chatting with friends, online banking, a movie night, working or reading the news - everything is closely related to today's communication technology. Did you know?In Europe, people use the internet for an average of 4.5 hours a day. In Asia it is more than 3 hours and in the US people spend an average of 6 hours on the internet every day. This is not surprising considering the many possibilities offered by the World Wide Web. Which connections make all these things possible? We give you a brief overview.Which connections do the inserts and covers offered here offer? In this catalog you will find inserts and covers for the following connections: RJ45 CAT, KOAX, UAE/IAE, TAE, SAT, HDMI, USB, XLR, Cinch as well as for speaker cables and others. The range also includes dummy covers, cable outlets, cable ducts and cover plates for built-in loudspeakers. Many manufacturers make inserts and covers in a standardized size. This enables you to choose, combine or vary an individual frame. Refer to the product description to find out whether the inside dimensions of the cover frame you have chosen fit the insert or the cover. This allows you to customize the media connections in your living space. What do you need an RJ45 CAT connection for?The RJ45 CAT connector is a connector for Ethernet cables typically used for computer networking. The cables are available in STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) and UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) versions. STP cables have a shield around each core. This protects against electromagnetic interference. STP cables are commonly used in offices with many computers or in industry. UTP cables have no shielding. These are cheaper and are mainly used in private households. The RJ45 CAT connector is suitable for networks in which large amounts of data are transmitted, for example when streaming video or downloading large files. The RJ45 CAT connector is compatible with the newer 802.11ac and 10GBASE-T standards. Choose such a deployment and appropriate coverage for your network if you have already migrated to these standards or will migrate in the future. The RJ45 CAT connector can be used for the following purposes:Functioning of Ethernet networks with high data rates over long distancesConnection of computers, switches, hubs, DSL modems, routers and other network devicesSupport for Voice over IP (VoIP), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and other bandwidth intensive applications Image: Gira 569703 Modular Jack RJ45 Cat6A insertWhat is the difference between IAE, UAE and TAE connections?Whether IAE, UAE or TAE - connections are an elementary part of the functionality of devices that accompany us every day. Everyone knows them, but very few know what lies behind them. IAE stands for 'Integrated Services Digital Network Access' and is a digital connection for telephony and Internet access. UAE stands for 'Universal ADSL Access' and is a special type of ADSL connection that enables high-speed Internet via the conventional telephone network. TAE stands for 'telecommunications system connection' and is an analogue telephone connection, which is still widespread in Germany.Interesting in a nutshellWhat is HDMI?HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is one of the most common interfaces for the digital transmission of audio and video data. The HDMI insert is a special type of connection that makes it possible to use HDMI cables and thus transmit audio and video data. HDMI inserts and the matching covers are available for installation in a switch box. Why do I need a blind cover?A blank cover is a cover for a port that is not used. This allows you to prevent dust or debris from getting into the port and contaminating the can. What is a cable outlet?Within a building it can happen that power lines or data lines are required at a certain point. A socket outlet or a data cable connection on the wall is not always desirable. Instead, the line or cable is routed cleanly out of the wall using a cable outlet and can be routed further within the room. What is a cord derivation?A cord derivation or cable outlet box is used to connect an external mostly flexible cable to the flush-mounted installation. In the private sector, for example, for leading out concealed multimedia cables or in the hotel industry for connecting the TV directly to the power supply as protection against theft. Are there combined telecommunications operations and media operations? Most inserts offer one or more connection points of the same type. There are a few inserts that combine different connections, for example RJ45 CAT and SAT. Mark connectionsIf there are numerous workplaces within a room and you need a large number of connections, we recommend covers with a labeling field. With small notes on the type, purpose or affiliation, you always have an overview of your installation. The eibabo® range includes a wide variety of variants and technical designs. These include models in various shades such as aluminum grey, polar white and anthracite or with glossy and matt surfaces. All inserts and covers are available in the current standards and regulations. Depending on the installation location and the desired type of assembly, you can benefit from our large range. Optimally design the connection between your living room or work area and the digital and multimedia world.  Catalogue content:In this eibabo® catalogue Domestic switching devices > Insert/cover for communication technology you will find items from the following product groups:Item overview:Antenna socketAssembly setBase unitBlank panelBlanking plugBreakout cableCable outletsCentral platesCommunication technologyCord outlet boxData communicationData connection moduleDust coverLabel fieldLotus whiteMiniature connector insertMounting adapterMounting plateNickel metallicOutlet platePlug-in hoodSolder connectionSpeaker boxSpeaker socketStrain reliefUniversal useVolume controlZone controlfrom the following manufacturers:Manufacturer overview catalogue Insert communication cover:ABLBachmannBerkerBusch JaegerCommScope EMEACommScope/AMP NetconnE+P ElektrikEatonEFB-ElektronikElsoEltakoGiraHagerHartingHomewayJungKathreinKleinhuisKreilingLegrand BticinoLeoni DatacomMaicoMertenMetzMurrelektronikOBOPanduitPehaReichle & De-MassariRutenbeckSetecSiemensStiebel EltronTechniSatTehalitTelegärtnerTriaxWeidmüller
Surge protector - measur./control - Modern sensors, measuring devices and probes monitor and control complex and interdependent processes. Protect these operations from power surge failures. We will introduce you to different MSR surge arresters and support you in your purchase decision.   Automated processes intervene deeply in a building management system or in production processes. As a result, a very high degree of availability of the determined and transmitted measurement data and control signals is required. Surge protection devices make a significant contribution to safeguarding the function of this technology in the event of voltage peaks of all kinds. Depending on the risk potential and the level of protection required, select the surge protection devices that are right for you and combine them with other protective circuits if necessary. Image: Dehn DPA-M-CLE-RJ45B-48 surge arrester What are MSR surge arresters? MSR stands for measurement technology, control technology and regulation technology. MSR technology is used in particular within modern bus systems and telecommunications systems. Private and industrial areas of application are: air conditioning and refrigeration systems heating systems and ventilation systems the field of water technology and waste water technology the electronics sector and smart home   The MSR overvoltage protection devices are used in electrical engineering to limit and divert overvoltages in electrical lines. Particularly sensitive measuring devices and control devices can be damaged by overvoltages, incorrect measurement data can be determined and incorrect control signals can be sent. But how does the overvoltage come about? Lightning strikes, short circuits, electrostatic discharges or switching operations by the network operator generate mains voltages which are well above the normal value of 230V in Germany. The consequences of such an event depend on the level and duration of the overvoltage and the speed of the voltage pulse.   The MSR surge arresters (Surge Protective Devices SPD) are usually installed directly in front of the signal inputs of the measuring devices and control devices to be protected. In the context of a three-stage overvoltage protection, these represent the so-called fine protection (type 3). What is measurement technology, control technology and regulation technology? MSR technology records a wide variety of situations and states within automated processes. Depending on the type and area of application, individual parameters are determined using different measurement methods. Typical measured variables are temperature, pressure, speed, humidity or chemical composition. These measured variables are converted into electrical signals such as current, voltage or resistance and serve as the basis for triggering logical actions. How is an MSR surge protection constructed? A general overvoltage protection is usually structured in three stages and is part of the internal lightning protection of a building. There are different requirement classes for overvoltage protection devices. We distinguish between type 1 (rough protection), type 2 (medium protection) or type 3 (fine protection). When selecting suitable protective devices, the type of possible fault and the type of device to be protected are considered. This results in a combination of different surge arresters adapted to the respective needs, which together ensure coarse, medium and fine protection.   Type 1 coarse protection devices are used to divert high lightning currents. These reduce the residual voltage of an overvoltage to a level between 6000 volts and 1300 volts. Type 1 devices are usually switched before the house installation. This means that the high lightning current cannot even reach the house distribution system.   Type 2 devices provide medium protection. They reduce the residual lightning voltage to values between 2000 volts and 600 volts. They are installed, for example, in the sub-distributors of individual apartments or parts of buildings. Medium protection devices also limit dangerous transient overvoltages. These are caused by the switching of transformers, circuit breakers, motors or inductive loads. Already knew? Surge arresters are not disposable fuses. The devices can ensure reliable protection over a long period of time and do not need to be replaced after they have been triggered.   The Type 3 overvoltage protection further reduces the remaining overvoltage. These devices provide fine protection and protect against voltages up to a level of 1000 volts AC or 1500 volts DC. The MSR surge arresters available in this eibabo® catalog belong to this category. Are MSR Surge Arresters Really Necessary? Whether special protective measures against overvoltage are required for your MSR devices must be considered individually for each installation. Estimate the risk objectively, taking into account the probability of overvoltages and overcurrents. Base this assessment on all existing parts of your protective measures against overvoltages. Include the risk of electromagnetic phenomena such as lightning discharges or earth potential rises in your considerations. Ultimately, you should achieve reliable protection for your entire system. Please consider the organizational and financial consequences that the failure of important measurement and control devices would have for your operational processes. When should I choose an MSR surge arrester? Power connections and data lines are an integral part of our everyday lives. Stable signal transmissions are essential for smooth business operations, and not just in industrial or commercial environments. Our high-tech lifestyle also demands reliable connectivity. If you recognize yourself in any of the following questions and answers, then MSR surge arresters are for you.   Do you value security? Security devices such as alarm systems, door intercom systems, access controls and emergency call devices only offer complete protection if the power supply, the monitoring sensors and the data lines work permanently. MSR surge arresters protect those systems that ensure your protection.   You don't want to do without the amenities of modern living comfort? A lot of planning, work and money goes into modern smart home installations. The automatic control of temperatures, shutters or multimedia applications enable a comfortable living environment. With MSR surge arresters, this convenience is maintained even in the event of an overvoltage.   TIP:Investing in reliable surge protection is usually less expensive than replacing, repairing, and installing new equipment.   Would you like to secure your independence? The production of your own electricity is becoming more important every year. Modern and environmentally friendly mobility solutions and heating systems rely on electricity from your own photovoltaic system. The efficient use and storage of electricity requires complex control devices. With an MSR surge arrester, you can protect this expensive technology from surge damage. You retain your independence from energy suppliers.   Do you want to protect investments and preserve property? Real estate is an investment and provision in one. Power supply - Find out here how to supply your KNX bus system with power. What power requirements do the individual KNX participants have? Which items do we recommend? This eibabo catalog contains power supplies and system devices for various automation systems, such as LCN, radio bus, KNX and many other systems. How do I determine the right KNX power supply for my installation? The most common power supplies in this catalog are for the KNX bus system. To determine the required power supply, you should first look at the structure of a KNX network. A distinction is made here between segments that are divided into a specific hierarchy. Imagine a tree whose trunk splits into branches. Twigs come off the branches. The branches represent the smallest 'unit' and are referred to as lines in the KNX network. Each line consists of the power supply, a KNX bus line and the participants. A main line would be the branch that connects multiple lines into an area. The area line represents the trunk that connects multiple areas. This structure makes sense for larger networks or if a division into several segments is recommended due to the structural conditions of a building. In addition to the power supply for the participants, the bus itself also requires a power supply of 24V nominal voltage. This is transmitted along with the data signals on the bus line. Depending on the manufacturer, the corresponding power supplies deliver 28V to 31V slightly more than the nominal voltage. This creates a buffer, for example for possible line losses. KNX bus participants still work stably up to 21V. The voltage difference is used to compensate for voltage drops in the bus line or at the contact resistances. A line can theoretically include up to 64 devices and provides a maximum current of 640mA at a voltage of 28V to 31V. This statement is based on the assumption that each KNX participant is allowed a maximum of 10mA from the bus voltage. The load capacity of the strongest power supply of 640mA continuous current must not be exceeded. Please plan in reserveWhen dimensioning your lines, allow at least 15% buffer for later extensions. A 640mA power supply therefore corresponds to around 54 devices.Smaller KNX power supplies are also available for fewer participants per line. If you know in advance that a line will never have more than a maximum of 32 subscribers (27 with buffer), you can choose a 320mA power supply. The same applies to a line with a maximum of 16 devices (14 with buffer). A 160mA power supply is sufficient here. In addition, there are larger 29V-30V power supplies with current limiters 640mA and KNX chokes separately. A KNX power supply always contains a KNX choke. The power requirement of a KNX participant is usually standardized. This should not normally exceed 200mW. 150mW for power supply of the microprocessor and 50mW for the bus terminal. There are many KNX devices that do not require this power reference. There are also KNX participants with higher requirements, for example KNX actuators, KNX room controllers or KNX displays. Please take this into account when sizing your lines. Pay attention to possible voltage drops, because the devices do not draw a certain current from the bus, but a certain power. If the maximum current is expected to be exceeded, you should integrate fewer than 64 participants in this line. How does the KNX power supply work?In the KNX power supply, the power supply always provides direct current (DC) at the output. The difference between the designation transformer and power supply is essentially that a classic transformer always outputs alternating current (AC) and also only works with alternating current at the input. Depending on the manufacturer, the power supplies generate a supply voltage of 28V to 31V. When the bus is idle, the supply voltage of the power pack is present. This state corresponds to a logical '1'. The logical '0' is generated by an alternating voltage. In order to send the '0', the sending KNX device reduces the voltage by around 5V for a short time. This results in an immediate compensating impulse, which comes from a choke integrated in the power pack. The KNX line is thus decoupled from the associated KNX power supply by the choke. This prevents short circuits in the data telegrams caused by the power pack. The voltage change is necessary so that the recipient can use the informationAre there KNX power supplies for more than 64 participants per line?In the eibabo® technology store you will find KNX power supplies up to 1280mA. However, it is not possible to set up a line with 128 participants. The power is distributed at two different outputs. There is thus the classic choked output with 640mA for the KNX bus as well as another unchoked output. Participants can be supplied with an auxiliary voltage via this output, for example a heatable rain sensor. Alternatively, you can use it to set up a second line. An additional choke is required for this.Image: Siemens 5WG11525-1AB22 KNX power supplyCan I monitor the utilization of a power supply? If you want to check whether a power supply is reaching its limits in use, we recommend a device with an integrated diagnostic function. This allows device temperature, output current, output voltage, bus traffic and other current measured values to be sent via KNX. This enables troubleshooting or general monitoring. What do I need a KNX emergency power supply for?Whether you need a KNX emergency power supply depends on how high you assess the risk of a power failure and its consequences for your system. The emergency power supply is used to buffer the bus voltage. An external battery is connected to the device. This provides a voltage of 12V DC and ensures the bus voltage for some time. The integrated charging electronics of the KNX emergency power supply recharges the battery or maintains the state of charge. You can record the operating states (mains voltage, error warning, battery operation) using a binary input, for example. As a rule, KNX emergency power supplies are mounted on the DIN rail. Both the KNX emergency power supplies and the required batteries are available here in the eibabo® shop at reasonable prices. What does PoE power supply mean? The abbreviation PoE stands for 'Power over Ethernet'. This allows you to transmit the electrical power required for the operation of the individual participants via the data lines of the network cable. You do not need a separate power cable. TIP:With a PoE power supply, the effort involved in cabling wired Ethernet networks is reduced. With this technology, the electrical voltage from the power supply is fed into the data cable. On the participant's side, this is diverted out again. To avoid interference, the participant should be PoE compatible. In this way, it can cleanly separate the incoming supply voltage from the data signal. If the end device is not PoE-compatible, the additional installation of a passive PoE splitter is necessary. The splitter takes the supply voltage from the data cable and feeds it via a separate line to the power input of the end device. Can I get classic 12V and 24V power supplies for conventional applications from eibabo®?Our classic power packs for the top-hat rail can be regulated depending on the model and are suitable for the power supply of external equipment. In addition, it is possible to use these for other equipment. Using a choke and a component for current limitation each, specific power supply units can also be used to supply one or more KNX lines. In addition to the installation technology, we offer you classic power supplies for universal use. What power supplies and manufacturers would you recommend?Basically, we recommend that you choose a device that suits your needs. Voltage supplies / power packs are standardized and are subject to legal requirements and regulations. If the technical parameters are completely identical, a price comparison between different manufacturers is of course worthwhile. In this catalog you will find KNX power supplies, KNX power supplies, KNX commissioning power supplies, KNX emergency power supplies, PoE power supplies, bus power supplies, IP power supplies PoE, battery modules for KNX power supplies, 12V power supplies and 24V power supplies for conventional applications.
