For example, there is the principle of dark switching and the principle of light switching. With dark switching, a transmitter continuously illuminates a receiver. If the light signal is interrupted by an object, it literally goes dark in the receiver and a switching signal is triggered. We know this from a classic light barrier. The principle of light switching with a light button works exactly the other way around. The light is emitted in such a way that it does not reach any receiving unit. However, if the light hits an object from which it is reflected to the receiver, this is registered and a switching signal is triggered.
